1. Test the energizer output first

Disconnect the fence wire from the energizer's fence terminal, then measure the output terminal directly with a fence tester. This tells you whether the energizer itself is producing pulses.

  • Reading above 3,000 V (3 kV) at the terminal means the energizer is working — the problem is in the fence or the ground.
  • A very low or zero reading at the terminal means the energizer or its power supply is at fault.
