Battery (12V) electric fence chargers (also called energizers) are the practical choice for paddocks, strip grazing and rotational systems that sit away from a power point. The same unit can run from a lead-acid or lithium battery, from a solar panel that keeps the battery topped up, or from a mains adaptor where a socket is available.
- Battery only — for short rotations where you move the unit often.
- Battery + solar panel — for remote blocks and multi-week grazing you cannot check daily.
- Battery + mains adaptor — where a socket exists but you still want battery backup.
Battery models are rated in joules like any other energizer, so size them by the total length of fence you are powering and by how much vegetation will touch it. Need help choosing? Start with our joule sizing guide, or read how to power an energizer.
